House ledger · chapter 13

FORBIDDEN ROOMS

8 formatted records from the House ledger.

THE NINTH HALLWAY

The most infamous forbidden corridor.

The House's oldest maps should not allow it to exist.

It appears unexpectedly.

Its rooms resemble forgotten places from guests' memories.

Archon refuses to enter.

Morpheus patrols it.

LOCKED MIRROR ROOM

A chamber filled entirely with mirrors.

The reflections behave incorrectly.

Some:

  • Move late
  • Move early
  • Smile independently
  • Show alternate versions of guests
  • Show different timelines

Primary rule:

If your reflection waves first, leave.

OLD RECEPTION

An ancient version of the front desk deep beneath the current House.

Contains:

  • Rusted keys
  • An old ledger
  • Flickering lights
  • A black telephone

The telephone has no working connection.

It rings anyway.

Do not answer it.

DOOR MARKED NOT YET

A dark door that appears throughout the House.

It has no visible handle.

The inscription reads:

NOT YET

The door does not block a room.

It blocks a moment.

ROOM OF REPEATED GOODBYES

A room appearing to guests carrying unfinished grief.

It may resemble:

  • A childhood bedroom
  • A hospital corridor
  • A station
  • A kitchen
  • A street
  • A lost home

The room allows unfinished farewells to repeat.

Remaining too long is dangerous.

SOLAR BLINDSPOT

A perfect road beneath an unmoving sun.

There is no finish line.

Movement occurs.

Progress does not.

Helios despises the room.

MOONLESS ROOM

The inverse of Selene's Lunar Study.

It contains:

  • Rest without recovery
  • Silence without peace
  • Stillness without relief

The room encourages hopelessness rather than fear.

BASEMENT UNDER THE BASEMENT

The deepest known location in Nox.

It cannot be deliberately mapped.

The walls contain the oldest commands:

Hold.

Bind.

Remember.

Whatever the House was originally created to contain may lie beyond this point.
